How HalluSpot works

One paste box, two checks, and evidence you can verify by hand.

Paste or upload

Paste text, or upload a .txt, .pdf, or .docx file. Scanned PDFs are refused, because there is no selectable text to check.

Choose AI detector or Citation check

AI detector returns a document score with sentence-level highlights. Citation check returns one verdict card per reference, comparing author, title, year, venue, DOI, and URL against four scholarly databases.

Read the evidence, then decide

A score below the unclear band reads closer to this model's own writing, the middle band is unclear, and a higher score reads more like a person. None of these bands is grounds for a penalty on its own.

What it does not do

HalluSpot is not a plagiarism checker, a grammar helper, a learning-platform integration, a photo scanner, or a browser extension, and it does not check a quotation against a book. Claiming less, clearly, is part of the design.

Limits to keep in mind

Detection is pattern-matching, not proof. It is strongest on English prose and on longer documents, and results for other languages are experimental. Short or heavily edited passages are harder to judge, which is why the highlighted sentences matter more than the headline score.
